It's the fight that will finally bring the two biggest fighting sports in the world together, as undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather faces UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor.
Here are all the important details of what will undoubtedly be the biggest Mayweather vs McGregor Fight of 2017.
Where
The fight will take place at the T-Mobile Arena, on the Las Vegas Strip, Nevada, which opened on April 6, 2016.In addition to hosting major unique events such as fights and concerts, the arena will become the permanent home of the Golden Knights of Las Vegas, the NHL team that will be based in Sin City from the 2017- 18.
Despite his relatively short history, McGregor is no stranger to the spot, winning a points decision victory over Nate Diaz on T-Mobile for UFC 202.
Vegas obviously has a rich history of hosting big boxing fights in its famous casinos, and while sand is not technically one of them, it is co-owned and run by MGM Resorts International, which also owns famous Vegas names like Bellagio, MGM Grand and the Mirage.
As an aside, the fight will not take place technically in Las Vegas. Most of the Las Vegas Strip, including the T-Mobile Arena, is technically located in the unincorporated town of Paradise, which is next to Las Vegas.
When
The McGregor vs Mayweather Fight will be officially held on Saturday, August 26, with the event starting at 3 pm.For Australians, that translates to Sunday, August 27 at 11am (AEST).
Times have not been announced, but obviously the main event will be the last on the card. As a guide, Mayweather's fight in 2015 against Manny Pacquiao began at about 9 pm local time, so Australians can probably anticipate the first shots to be thrown around 5 pm (AEST).
History of the fighters
Regardless of the results of this particular fight, Floyd Mayweather Jr will go down in history as a pound for pound one of the greatest fighters of all time. His record is 49-0, with 26 wins coming via KO. It's not exactly a scary record as to finishing off his opponents, but Mayweather's real strength is his ringcraft. The man formerly known as "Pretty Boy" is considered one of the best defensive boxers to always fit a pair of gloves, know exactly when to attack and when he has compiled enough points to be sure in the withdrawal and still win the round.
The closest thing to a spot in his career is a bronze medal as an amateur at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. But with a number of publications speculating that the fight with McGregor will bring Mayweather's career winnings to more than a billion Dollars, you probably do not worry about the results before you become a pro and it is no wonder that you are now known as "Money" instead of "Pretty Boy".
As for McGregor, this will be his first professional boxing match, which means his current record stands at 0-0.
However, the Irishman has won this crack in Mayweather at the back of his skills at the Octagon, where he has racked up a 21-3 record.
Of particular importance is that 'The Notorious' has won 18 of its knockout attacks and only one by submission, while its three defeats have come by submission.
The takeaway is that McGregor is a vicious assailant, so he was seen as the logical mixed martial artist to take on Mayweather - sure, the Dublin guy can kick and fight, but his fists are his strength.
Odds
While the final odds could lengthen or shorten significantly until the first bell rings, at this stage the bookies see this fight as having a fairly clear winner. With a professional career dating back to 1996, and never having missed a bout during that time, Mayweather is the runaway favorite, paying something around $ 1.18 to win, while McGregor is teeing off at something close to $ 5.
Most experts are of the opinion that Mayweather vs McGregor best chance to stop is to go out and stun him early, with the shorter odds of a McGregor KO / TKO win offered in the first round.
